The late Dr. Hai-Sik Sohn is the founder of Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA). Dr. Sohn has made significant contributions to APTA while serving as its Inaugural President between 1995 – 2005. In order to commemorate the exemplary leadership of Dr. Sohn as well as his dedication to promoting the hospitality, leisure, and tourism industries, the Founder’s Award Committee is asking for your assistance in identifying candidates for The Founder’s (Dr. Hai-Sik Sohn) Award, the highest honor awarded by the APTA.

We would like to encourage our members to think about individuals who may be considered for this prestigious award. Those who have and continue to promote hospitality, leisure, and tourism through meaningful contributions are eligible for award consideration. Please review the guidelines and request for nominations below and join us, the APTA Founder’s Award Committee, in our commitment to honor such achievement in 2023.

The Founder’s Award will be presented to the recipient at the annual conference banquet. The 2023 APTA Annual Conference will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on July 5-7. We look forward to receiving your nomination(s) and to welcoming you at the 2023 APTA Annual Conference.

2017 Prof. Emeritus Manat Chaisawat (Prince of Songlka University)

2018 Prof. Corazon F Gatchalian (University of the Philippines)

2019 Prof. Ming-Huei LEE (Hsing-Wu Tech University, Taiwan)

Guideline for Nominee Qualifications

  • Scholars/practitioners within the field of hospitality, leisure, and tourism.

  • Professional involvement and service to the APTA on a local, regional and national level.

  • Involvement in the APTA is a key indicator of distinguished service, therefore, the Founder’s Award recipient should be planning to attend the APTA Annual Conference.

  • The nominator shall prepare a cover letter, recommendation form and candidate’s curriculum vitae that focuses on outstanding achievements of the nominee in the field of hospitality, leisure, and tourism.

Guideline for Nomination

For the nomination, the following documents need to be submitted to the Chair of Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA).

  • Cover Letter (Free style)

  • Nomination Application Form (click here to download the Application Form): In the form, describe why you believe this person should be considered for the Founder’s Award, including a description of his or her service, achievements, and awards in the realm of hospitality, leisure, and tourism. Include any information that you feel would assist the Selection Committee in their decision.

  • Curriculum Vitae of the candidate

 

Submit all nominations by June 4, 2023 to the Chairman of APTA, Dr. Yeong-Hyeon Hwang at dryeong@dau.ac.kr.

Award Ceremony

The APTA 2023 Founder’s Award ceremony will be held during the closing ceremony of APTA 2023 Annual Conference on

July 7, 2023.
